What Is an MT5 Expert Advisor?
A plain explanation of how Expert Advisors execute rules inside MetaTrader 5, and what they can and cannot do.
An Expert Advisor (EA) is a program that runs inside the MetaTrader 5 terminal and applies a defined set of rules to market data. When the conditions in those rules are met, the EA places, modifies or closes orders without manual intervention.
The value of an EA is consistency of execution: the same rules are applied at every opportunity, without hesitation or fatigue. The limitation is equally important — an EA can only do what it was programmed to do, and market conditions change.
Before deploying any automation on a live account, run it on a demo account under the same broker conditions you intend to trade, and confirm that risk parameters behave the way you expect.
